The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Rustenburg expresses grave concern over the ongoing and escalating water supply crisis, and have therefore demanded an urgent meeting between Rand Water, Magalies Water, Rustenberg Services Trust and the Municipality.

The DA in Rustenburg has formally written (see attached letter) to Executive Mayor Sheila Mabale-Huma, urging her to convene this high-level crisis meeting involving all key stakeholders, to avoid “Day Zero”

Recent reports from Rand Water and Magalies Water reveal that extraction dams are under immense strain due to prolonged dry conditions, insufficient rainfall, and increasing demand for treated water. These factors pose a critical threat to Rustenburg’s water security, with dire implications for residents and businesses.

The meeting must address the crisis by emerging with an immediate action plan, enhanced communication plan, and contingency plans for if the taps do run dry.

Rustenburg residents must receive basic services, and water supply is not negotiable. The Mayor must act, immediately, or she will personally be responsible for making this crisis worse.
