The Democratic Alliance (DA) swiftly responded to yet another cable theft incident in Lekwa-Teemane, following a report from residents in Ward 5, Utlwanang, Christiana, where two households were left without electricity.
In response to the reported incident, the DA visited the affected area to assess the situation, engage with residents, and establish the steps to address the matter.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) was also notified. However, no assistance was received from the municipality to attend the incident or engage with the affected residents.
To ensure the matter received urgent attention, the DA engaged Eskom on behalf of the affected households. Eskom issued reference numbers and confirmed with one of the homeowners that a team would be dispatched to repair the damaged cable.
Due to the dangerous condition of the exposed electrical infrastructure, Eskom classified the matter as a safety risk requiring urgent intervention.
This incident highlights the importance of responsive leadership and public representatives being visible and accessible when communities face challenges. Residents deserve representatives who act when service delivery and safety concerns arise.
