– Special Council resolves to sign Distribution Agency Agreement (DAA) with Eskom,

– The agreement aims to improve electricity supply, governance, and financial stability,

– The DA will closely monitor implementation and hold the municipality accountable.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ditsobotla welcomes the Special Council’s resolution to sign a Distribution Agency Agreement (DAA) with Eskom. This was one of the key interventions the DA called for when advocating for a Section 139(7) intervention and marks this as an important step towards addressing the municipality’s ongoing electricity and financial challenges.

For far too long, residents and businesses endured unreliable electricity supply, poor service delivery, and mounting municipal debt.

The signing of the DAA presents an opportunity to:

  1. Improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply.
  2. Address municipal debt through improved revenue collection.
  3. Enhance accountability and oversight in electricity management.
  4. Support local economic growth through reliable service delivery.

The DA notes that no objections were raised during the public participation process conducted earlier this year. This demonstrates that residents support decisive action to end the cycle of mismanagement and instability.

This agreement is about more than electricity. It is about restoring public confidence, rebuilding the municipality’s financial sustainability, and ensuring that past governance failures are addressed.

The DA will closely monitor the implementation of the agreement and will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and measurable progress.

Residents deserve to see real improvements in service delivery, not merely promises on paper.

The DA remains committed to holding the municipality accountable and ensuring that this resolution translates into meaningful relief and better services for the people of Ditsobotla.
