– Special Tribunal sets aside unlawful R25.8 million wastewater treatment contract,

– Municipal officials bypassed a legitimate tender process with 17 bidders and made an unlawful appointment,

– DA calls on the NPA to act on SIU criminal referrals to ensure that all those responsible are held accountable.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ditsobotla welcomes the Special Tribunal’s ruling that has set aside the unlawful R25.8 million wastewater treatment contract irregularly awarded to Rensh Close Corporation.

This judgment is a landmark victory for accountability and a clear rejection of the corruption and collusion that has crippled service delivery in the municipality. The Tribunal has ordered Rensh Close Corporation to repay all monies received, including profits, while Themak Consulting Civil Engineering Consultancy must repay R3.88 million in consultancy fees with interest.

The DA notes with concern that municipal officials enabled this fraudulent process by abandoning a legitimate tender process that had already attracted 17 bidders. Instead, unlawfully appointing Rensh Close Corporation, leaving residents without the promised improvements to critical wastewater infrastructure.

Corruption and maladministration in Ditsobotla have robbed residents of basic services while enriching a few connected individuals.

The DA calls on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to act swiftly on the criminal referrals made by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to ensure that all those responsible are held accountable.

The people of Ditsobotla deserve better. This judgment will mark the beginning of a new era of transparency, accountability, and service delivery that prioritises residents over corrupt syndicates.
