The DA in the City of Matlosana welcomes the repair of roads in Ward 15, Klerksdorp. We have been persistent in calling for the repairs for several years now and have submitted petitions from the community to bring the necessary repairs.

The Matlosana Roads Department indicated in May 2023, that repairs will be brought to several main roads and that these projects will be funded out of this year’s budget.

The DA is delighted to report that the repair of roads in Leemhuys- and Wessels Streets will start soon. Both roads carry considerable traffic and the repairs brought here will make it easier and safer to drive on.

Matlosana’s roads are in an advanced state of disrepair, causing traffic jams, damage to vehicles and putting the lives of motorists at risk. Poorly maintained roads also make it difficult for business to supply goods and services, increases the costs of vehicle maintenance and negatively affect local economic development.

But more importantly, essential services, specifically the response of emergency medical vehicles and police to call-outs, cause avoidable delays where every minute delayed could mean the difference between life or death.

In a bid to make Ward 15’s roads more drivable and accessible, the DA, through the contributions of Councillors, members of the public and the DA’s Young Leaders Programme, have started to clean and refurbish pavements. See images here and here.

The DA in Matlosana will closely monitor the road repair contracts in Ward 15 and report to the community to ensure that the work done meets the minimum standards and to prevent fraud and corruption. We will also continue to push for the repairs of all roads throughout Matlosana.
