The Democratic Alliance today launched Team DA Mahikeng, our 35 ward candidates who will contest every ward in the municipality with one clear mission: to get Mahikeng working for all.
Our team reflects the communities we seek to serve and brings together serving councillors, community developers, School Governing Body and traditional council members, experienced administrators, entrepreneurs, graduates, electricians and other community leaders. It also includes a serving UCDP PR councillor who has chosen to join the DA, further demonstrating that residents and political leaders are increasingly looking for an alternative based on competent and accountable government.
Mahikeng is the capital city of the North West, yet residents continue to experience deteriorating roads, unreliable water supply, abandoned and dilapidated buildings, unfinished housing projects and an industrial area where failing infrastructure undermines investment and job creation.
Communities know these failures personally. Magogoe residents were promised water connections that did not materialise despite money being spent. Families in Montshioa continue living under asbestos roofs, while communities including Makhubung, Mosiane View and Airport View continue to face inadequate municipal services.
This cannot be the standard residents are expected to accept.
Our Working for All Manifesto 2026 sets out a different approach: professional local government that gets the basics right, manages public money responsibly, maintains infrastructure and creates an environment where businesses can invest and jobs can be created.
Our 35 candidates will take that message into every village, township, suburb and street in Mahikeng. We will listen to residents, identify local problems and hold the municipality accountable for delivering the services people deserve.
No community belongs to any political party. Support must be earned.
Mahikeng has enormous potential. What residents need is government that works for everyone, not government that works for the advancement of political interests at the expense of basic services.
