- A two-year leak remains unresolved despite repeated reports,
- Clean, treated water is being wasted into a nearby stream while Matlosana faces an ongoing water crisis,
- The DA supplied drone footage, GPS coordinates and photographs, yet the municipality has still failed to resolve the problem.
The Democratic Alliance in Matlosana Ward 39 has again called on the City of Matlosana to urgently repair a significant water leak in Adamayview that has remained unresolved for more than two years.
This is not a minor leak. Clean, treated municipal water is continuously flowing from a main water line into a nearby stream — a deeply concerning situation at a time when Matlosana is facing an ongoing water crisis.
The leak is located on municipal infrastructure, with the affected chamber clearly visible, and has been repeatedly reported to the municipality.
Following a recent meeting, Director Nelson Mongale committed to immediate intervention. The DA provided drone footage, GPS coordinates, photographs and supporting evidence to help the relevant teams locate and address the problem.
Yet the leak remains.
While residents are urged to conserve water, the City of Matlosana is allowing thousands of litres of clean, treated water to run to waste. This is unacceptable, particularly when communities continue to experience water shortages.
This is not simply about a leak. It is about a municipality that has been informed, provided with evidence, given the exact location and still has not resolved the problem.
The continued failure to address the leak also raises concerns about potential damage to the municipal infrastructure and the surrounding environment.
Matlosana cannot afford to waste its limited water resources while residents experience unreliable water services.
The DA is calling on the City of Matlosana to:
- Immediately dispatch the appropriate water teams to the site.
- Provide a clear timeframe for the completion of the repair and provide regular updates on progress.
- Repair the main water line and permanently resolve the leak.
Matlosana needs a government that takes responsibility, equips its water teams properly and fixes problems instead of allowing them to remain on endless lists of reported faults.
It is time for change. It is time for a DA government that will get Matlosana working for all.
