  • A four-year sewerage nightmare in Randlespark has finally come to an end,
  • Residents should never have had to wait years for a basic service delivery problem to be addressed,
  • The DA will continue holding the municipality accountable for maintaining essential infrastructure.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the repair of a long-standing sewerage problem in Bloedrivier Street, Randlespark, bringing relief to residents who have endured unacceptable conditions for nearly four years.

For years, residents were forced to live with recurring sewerage spills, blocked drains, unpleasant living conditions, and the associated health and environmental risks that accompany failing sanitation infrastructure. No community should be expected to tolerate such conditions for such an extended period.

The successful repair follows sustained engagement, oversight, and pressure from the DA to ensure that the matter remained on the municipality’s agenda until a permanent solution was implemented.

While the DA welcomes this outcome, it also raises serious questions about why residents had to wait four years for a basic service delivery issue to be addressed. Municipal infrastructure failures should be identified and resolved long before they develop into prolonged crises that negatively impact the health, dignity, and quality of life of residents.

This matter highlights the urgent need for improved preventative maintenance, faster response times, and greater accountability within municipal departments responsible for water and sanitation infrastructure.

The DA believes that access to reliable sanitation services is a basic right and an essential component of a functioning municipality. Residents who faithfully pay for municipal services deserve infrastructure that is maintained and responsive service delivery when problems arise.

Although this issue has now been resolved, the DA will continue monitoring infrastructure challenges across Randlespark and the broader Matlosana area to ensure that residents receive the services they deserve.

The DA remains committed to holding the municipality accountable and fighting for a local government that works for its residents through proactive maintenance, responsible governance, and effective service delivery.
