The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matlosana welcomes the arrival of long-overdue tar in our community; a direct result of sustained DA pressure, community mobilisation, and continued oversight (see photos here and here).

For more than a year, the DA has been driving this issue through petitions, public engagement, and visible activism, including pothole petition posters across the affected areas (see photos here, here, and here). Our renewed petition this year further amplified residents’ voices and made it impossible for the municipality to ignore the crisis any longer (see photos here and here).

For far too long, residents have suffered dangerous, deteriorating roads that disrupted daily life, damaged vehicles, and placed businesses and emergency services at risk. The ANC-led municipality repeatedly failed to act until the DA, alongside determined community members, applied sustained pressure to force long-overdue intervention.

This progress is not a favour from the municipality, it is the result of relentless DA action backed by residents who refused to stay silent.

We extend our appreciation to the community for supporting every petition, signing every list, and standing firm in demanding better. We also acknowledge the municipal teams who have now responded and begun delivering this long-awaited material.

However, this is only the beginning. The DA will continue monitoring the rollout to ensure the tar is used effectively, transparently, and consistently, not as a once-off gesture, but as part of a reliable, long-term road maintenance plan. Our fight remains focused on ensuring the municipality adopts sustainable infrastructure solutions that match the needs of all Matlosana residents.

Where the DA works with communities, progress follows. We will not stop until every road reflects the quality of service delivery our residents deserve.
