  • Another woman found deceased in Seweding Village,
  • Second incident raises serious concerns about community safety,
  • DA calls for urgent action to strengthen community safety structures.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mahikeng is deeply saddened by the death of Omphemetse Moleleki, who was found deceased in Seweding Village.

The loss of yet another woman has left a family facing unimaginable grief and a community deeply concerned about the safety of women in Seweding.

The DA condemns violence against women in the strongest possible terms. No community should be forced to accept violence as a normal part of everyday life.

Of particular concern is that this is the second incident of this nature reported in Seweding, leaving residents not only mourning but also fearful for their safety.

The DA extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. Their privacy and dignity must be respected as SAPS continues with its investigation.

However, condolences alone are not enough.

The DA calls on law-enforcement authorities to give this matter the urgent attention it deserves, establish the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.

The DA further calls for the urgent revival, proper training and resourcing of Community Policing Forums and Ward Safety Committees across Mahikeng. Community safety structures must be functional, visible and adequately supported, rather than existing only on paper.

The DA also appeals to the Seweding community to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to come forward through the appropriate channels.

Residents have a right to live in safe communities, supported by effective law enforcement and properly equipped community safety structures that are able to protect them.
