The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes the successful High Court application by the Municipal Manager of Matlosana, Ms. Lesego Seametso, following her unlawful suspension by Council on 31 March 2026.
Despite clear warnings from the DA that proper legal processes had to be followed, a faction within the ANC, commonly referred to as the “CFO faction”, pushed through a resolution to suspend the Municipal Manager.
The High Court in Mahikeng has now set aside the Council’s decision, with costs awarded jointly and severally.
This judgment confirms that the DA’s concerns were valid and that the decision to suspend the Municipal Manager was procedurally flawed and unlawful.
The DA is deeply concerned that the financial cost of this reckless decision will ultimately be borne by the residents of Matlosana despite repeated warnings that the correct legal processes were not followed.
Residents should not be forced to pay for the consequences of political infighting and disregard for the rule of law.
The DA will pursue all available avenues to ensure that those councillors who supported this unlawful decision are held personally accountable for the legal costs incurred.
Matlosana cannot continue to be governed through factional battles that undermine lawful governance and service delivery.
The DA remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting public funds, and restoring accountable governance in the City of Matlosana.
