The DA today wrote to the JB Marks Mayor, Cllr Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele, and the Municipal Manager, Sandile Tyatya, to urgently allocate technical teams to repair massive raw sewage leaks in Ikageng, Promosa and Mohadin. See letter here.

Many residents have approached the DA for assistance with the JB Marks Local Municipality to bring repairs and ensure that the affected areas are cleaned and rehabilitated.

Over the last few years, complaints from residents living and working in and around these areas have increased significantly while efforts by the JB Marks Municipality to respond to leaks and to repair them have gone down significantly.

Raw sewage is leaking into homes and yards, while the stench is unbearable. This poses a serious health risk to residents, workers, the elderly and children. See photos here, here and here.

Despite making promises to improve service delivery, the JB Marks Local Municipality under the governance of the ANC is busy falling apart.

Roads are deteriorating, refuse is collected erratically, and neighbourhoods are awash with raw sewage and purified clean water flowing down streets.

The DA will closely monitor the response and expected action from the municipality and continue to fight for residents of JB Marks.
