- Ward 6 and Ward 7 residents were left without electricity for six days after an outage began last Friday.
- The DA immediately escalated the matter with Eskom and repeatedly followed up for urgent intervention.
- Community-focused leadership means listening to residents, taking action and following through until problems are resolved.
The Democratic Alliance in the Lekwa-Teemane has once again been on the ground and working directly with communities after residents in Ward 6 and Ward 7 were left without electricity for six days.
The prolonged outage, which began last Friday, had a serious impact on households, businesses and the daily lives of residents who were forced to cope without a basic service for almost a week.
After residents contacted, we immediately escalated the matter with Eskom, making numerous calls and sending emails to ensure that the outage received urgent attention.
The matter was logged under Eskom Reference Number 1214372813, and we continued following up Tuesday and again on Wednesday, requesting that the outage be escalated and that urgent assistance be provided to affected residents.
This is what community-focused leadership should look like: residents raise a problem, their representatives listen, action is taken, and the matter is followed through until there is a resolution.
Our Working for All Manifesto is about putting communities first and ensuring that government is responsive, accountable and focused on delivering the basic services residents depend on every day.
Six days without electricity is six days too long. Residents should not have to fight alone to get basic services restored. We will continue to remain on the ground, listen to residents and hold those responsible for service delivery to account, because Lekwa-Teemane residents deserve a government that works for all.
