The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matlosana has written to the Municipal Manager regarding concerns over the concentrated deployment of municipal service delivery resources in Ward 20, an ANC-led ward currently facing a by-election (see letter).
While all communities are entitled to reliable and consistent basic services, the noticeable increase in service delivery activity within a single ward during an election period raises important questions about fairness, prioritisation, and the use of public resources.
This situation raises an important question: Are municipal resources being allocated equitably across all wards, or are certain areas receiving prioritised attention in a manner that coincides with electoral activity?
In the correspondence, the DA has requested the following:
- A full breakdown of IDP-aligned projects;
- SDBIP targets linked to service delivery implementation;
- Budget allocations per ward;
- Whether the current service delivery interventions in Ward 20 were planned in advance or reprioritised outside of approved municipal processes.
The DA acknowledges that service delivery is currently taking place in Ward 20. However, this level of municipal responsiveness should not be limited to a single ward during a by-election period.
We therefore call on the ANC-led municipality to ensure that the same level of service delivery is implemented consistently and fairly across all wards in Matlosana, particularly in communities that continue to face long-standing infrastructure and maintenance challenges.
The DA will continue to monitor service delivery patterns across the municipality to ensure that public resources are distributed equitably and that all residents receive the attention and services they deserve.
Residents deserve a municipality that serves every community equally, consistently, and transparently — not only during politically sensitive periods, but as a matter of ongoing governance and accountability.
