The Democratic Alliance (DA) extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the victim who tragically lost his life during the fatal shooting incident in Uraniaville on the 11th of May.

No resident should leave home for work and never return because criminals are allowed to terrorise communities without fear. The people of Uraniaville are once again confronted with the harsh reality of rising crime, deteriorating infrastructure, and ongoing municipal neglect.

It is deeply concerning that this area, which forms part of one of the municipality’s key economic and income-generating wards, continues to suffer from severe service delivery failures. Residents and businesses contribute significantly to the local economy, yet they are left to deal daily with worsening conditions and growing insecurity.

Cable theft has become an almost daily occurrence in the area, resulting in repeated electricity outages, disruptions to businesses, financial losses, and increasing safety concerns for residents. At the same time, the community continues to face ongoing water interruptions, dangerous potholes, and deteriorating roads.

Communities cannot prosper where criminals operate freely and basic infrastructure is allowed to collapse.

The DA calls on law enforcement agencies to urgently increase visible policing in the area, intensify investigations into organised criminal activity linked to cable theft and violent crime, and ensure that those responsible for this senseless murder are brought to justice.

We further call on the municipality and relevant government departments to prioritise urgent infrastructure repairs and service delivery interventions in Uraniaville before conditions deteriorate even further.

The DA stands with the residents and businesses of Uraniaville during this difficult time and will continue to fight for safer communities, reliable services, and accountable governance.
