The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Hartbeespoort, Madibeng, calls on Madibeng Local Municipality to urgently prioritise road maintenance and proper infrastructure investment. This as the shocking deterioration of local roads continue, where potholes have grown so severe that they pose a real danger to motorists and can only be described as bathtub-sized hazards (see photo here).
This situation is unacceptable for a town that is one of South Africa’s popular tourist destinations and a key economic driver for the North West province.
While the rainy season contributes to road damage, the real issue is governance failure. Madibeng’s Integrated Development Plan has nothing more than a wish list, and the community has already rejected an unfunded budget that fails to address the most urgent service delivery priorities.
Hartbeespoort, a jewel of tourism in the North West, is being failed by Madibeng Local Municipality. Residents and visitors are forced to navigate unsafe roads, undermining public safety and damaging the local economy. Alarmingly, less than 1% of monthly revenue collected from the Hartbeespoort community is reinvested into service delivery in the area, a clear sign of financial mismanagement and a municipality in distress.
Hartbeespoort residents deserve safe roads, functional services, and accountable leadership. Our community cannot continue to suffer because of neglect and poor financial planning. The time for accountability and decisive action is now, not just when elections approach. The DA will continue to fight for responsible governance and real delivery for Hartbeespoort.
