The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matlosana welcomes the long-overdue repairs at the intersection of Ian Street and Chris Hani (R30) (see video here).
This comes after sustained pressure from the DA, including formal writing to both the municipal manager and council, calling for urgent intervention at this intersection.
After nearly three months of delays, the work has finally been completed, and the intersection is now operational. While this is a positive step, it should never have taken this long. Residents were left to deal with an unsafe and poorly managed intersection, particularly during peak traffic times. Basic service delivery like this must be addressed swiftly and done correctly the first time.
Communities deserve a government that responds fast, plans ahead, and takes responsibility. Unfortunately, what we have seen here is a lack of urgency and poor follow-through.
While the repair work is now complete, it must be maintained to a proper standard. We will continue to monitor infrastructure across Matlosana closely and hold the relevant departments accountable to prevent similar delays and failures in future.
Our focus remains clear: safer roads, reliable service delivery, and a municipality that works for its residents.
