The Democratic Alliance (DA) demands answers from Moretele Local Municipality over its failure to ensure reliable water supply to residents despite paying Magalies Water R15 million monthly.

The Director of Infrastructure Development Services, Mr Pholoso Molautsi, informed the portfolio committee that Moretele receives 30 megalitres of water per month, while the municipality’s monthly payments to Magalies Water have increased from R6 million to R15 million.

Despite this increased expenditure, residents continue to experience water shortages due to leaking pipes, deteriorating infrastructure and a lack of proper maintenance. The municipality’s failure to maintain its infrastructure further worsens the crisis, particularly during the hot, dry summer months when demand for water increases.

This is an example of ANC chaos that continues to undermine the dignity and livelihoods of residents and businesses.

The DA has been assisting affected communities since last year, including residents who have lived for more than 10 years without running water from their taps.

The DA calls on the municipality to account for its water expenditure, address infrastructure failures and ensure that residents receive the services they deserve, regardless of political affiliation.

Every rand spent on water must translate into water flowing from residents’ taps. Under a DA government, residents will not have to endure years without running water while the municipality fails to maintain its infrastructure. Vote DA on 4 November to get North West working for all!
