The DA in Matlosana, by means of a petition, urges the Matlosana Local Municipality to conduct a full-scale audit of the roads and to urgently allocate the much-needed resources to fix, maintain, and upgrade the damaged roads.
During a recent Municipal Mayoral Imbizo, municipal officials shockingly stated that roads “do not generate revenue,” so they are prioritising other budgetary concerns. They insist that funds must first be sourced before road repairs can begin.
This is a clear indication of poor governance, mismanagement, and the municipality’s lack of accountability to its residents.
Our roads are a fundamental public service, a necessity for safe transport, and a key enabler of economic activity. The consequence of the municipality’s refusal to prioritise this critical infrastructure is the sole reason why the local roads now resemble an obstacle course, endangering lives and damaging vehicles.
With the rainy season fast approaching, swift action for road repairs is essential to prevent further deterioration.
The City of Matlosana must acknowledge this pressing issue and take immediate action to prioritise pothole repairs and put a preventive maintenance plan in place.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matlosana is taking a stand. We have drawn up a petition, which will be available for residents to sign by visiting a DA information table or contacting any DA councillor in Matlosana.
The people of Matlosana deserve roads that are safe, functional, and maintained.
