The Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality is once again failing in its residents in Sannieshof and Ottosdal, in the Tswaing Local Municipality.
For years now, DA Councillors and residents of Sannieshof and Ottosdal have been pleading with the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality to provide basic water and sanitation services as contained in the Constitution.
About 1 000 private homes, schools, nursing homes, and businesses pay a monthly municipal charge for septic tanks to be emptied. The area should be serviced by at least 7 Honey-suckers, but there are only three available to service the entire area creating a massive backlog.
Several attempts by DA councillors in Tswaing and Ngaka Modiri Molema District to alert the municipality of the increasing risk of not servicing the areas with Honey-suckers, have fallen on deaf ears.
Now, being unable to flush their toilets, bath and do laundry, residents have now been forced to resort to pumping the raw sewage into the streets with pool pumps, posing major health risks.
The DA will write to the MEC for COGTA, Oageng Molapisi, and request that immediate attention be given to the plight of the residents in Sannieshof and Ottosdal.
