The DA welcomes the election of its NW Provincial Chairperson and MPL, Freddy Sonakile, as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Transport Management (COSATMA) in the North West Provincial Legislature.
Sonakile is no stranger to oversight, having been the DA’s Caucus Leader in the 6th Legislature term. He is an Advocate of the High Court and has served as a member of this committee in the previous term.
The Committee oversees the performance of the department responsible for the effective coordination of crime prevention initiatives, provincial police, and road safety within the province. This includes oversight on the controversial North West Transport Investments (NTI).
Having spoken out on policing issues and the infamous NW donkey carts saga, amongst others, in the previous term, we believe he is a perfect fit. His experience and acumen will definitely bear fruit for the province.
We wish him well as he works towards making a difference in the lives of all North West citizens and ensuring the Department accounts for its performance.
