The DA in the Mahikeng Local Municipality will ensure that the former Director of Corporate Services, Ms Karabo Masuku, who resigned on 30 March 2023 to avoid accountability following a disciplinary process against her for the irregular appointment of 79 general workers.
The Mahikeng Council will discuss and deliberate on the final report likely to be presented later this month on April 26 2023 following a Special Council meeting this week.
Council was only informed on Tuesday, 11 April 2023, that Ms Masuku abruptly resigned with immediate effect following the tabling of the preliminary report implicating her directly in the irregular appointment of the 79 general workers in May 2022.
Ms Masuku’s internal disciplinary proceedings have been concluded but await the committee chairperson’s final decision on the findings and sanction. Her resignation was an attempt to escape accountability.
The DA in Mahikeng will ensure that Ms Masuku is held accountable should the final report indicate any abuse of power, fraud or corruption in the recruitment of this cohort of general workers. If there is any indication of criminality, the DA will move in Council that the Municipal Manager, Dineo Mongwaketse, open a criminal case with the SAPS.
Regardless of Ms Masuku’s resignation, she needs to answer for her actions.
