The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Rustenburg will report the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety, Cllr Victoria Makhaula, to the Hawks following allegations of fraud and corruption against her amounting to R400 000.

The DA is in possession of an affidavit written by an employee of the Rustenburg Local Municipality who alleges that Makhaula forged her signature and concluded a lease agreement with a hotel while she was serving as the MMC for Planning and Human Settlements. See attached affidavit.

Makhaula allegedly received R400 000 as gratification for facilitating and ensuring the finalisation of the said lease.

The MMC still holds a position in office while the employee has been subjected to disciplinary proceedings.

The employee has opened a case at the local SAPS station against the MMC – case number RTB CAS 547/07/2021, and there will be further investigation into this matter.

The DA will report this matter to the Hawks, requesting them to investigate these claims. Should there be any substance to these claims, then MMC Makhaula must do the honourable thing and resign from her position.
