Resignation of Dr Ruth Mompati Speaker is another indication of ANC factionalism playing itself out

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality notes the resignation of Cllr Lorato Setlhale as Speaker, but her resignation will not bring any changes within the municipality as it is yet another example of ANC factionalism playing itself out.

Cllr Setlhale tabled her resignation as Speaker last week Friday and was replaced by Cllr Elvis Takganyane during a Special Council meeting held earlier this week.

The Speaker’s resignation comes as no surprise as it follows the dismissal of Cllr Boitumelo Mahlangu, who was removed as the Executive Mayor on 29 March 2021 and replaced by Cllr Kgalalelo Sereko.

The change of Mayor and District Municipal Speaker will not have any positive impact on the district municipality’s ability to turn its finances around and improve service delivery, his change is nothing but ANC factions playing political games at the expense of the residents of the district.

The Provincial Government has indicated that it wants to put the district under Section 139(1) of the Constitution for Provincial intervention. This was communicated to the Council during a Special Council meeting held on Monday, another meeting is scheduled with the MEC of Cooperative Governance, Mmoloki Cwaile, regarding this issue.

It is clear that the ANC is no longer interested in governing and providing services, they are more interested in fighting for positions. The residents of the District deserve a government that will put their needs first and by delivering service delivery.

On 27 October 2021, the residents can put an end to this corrupt government by voting for a DA government that prioritises service delivery. Most well-run municipalities are governed by the DA, we want to bring this change to the North West.
