The Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West is proud to introduce its candidates for the 2019 General Elections to our voters.

This list of candidates represents the diversity of North West. Our lists are diverse in every sense – race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, skills set, geography, class and the blend between youth and experience.

Our DA North West Premier Candidate Joe McGluwa who is also the Provincial Leader and a Member of Parliament holds the first position on the list.

Get to know your Premier Candidate, Joe McGluwa:

I am Joe McGluwa, married to Nadia and father of two. I am also a grandfather.

I have been engaged in politics since a very young age, mainly through my father’s involvement and my passion for always wanting to help people wherever I can.

My childhood stems from humble beginnings in Alabama, Klerksdorp. I am one of two brothers in a family of five children. My brother also shares my passion for politics and is a Member of the Provincial Legislature in the Northern Cape.

My political career started at the age of 24 when I became a councillor at the Matlosana Municipality in North.

Now I am a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly, Leader of the DA in North West and the NW Premier Candidate. I now serve a DA Shadow Minister for COGTA

My tertiary education includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Witwatersrand.

I have always been actively engaged in bringing people together and thus I am offering myself as a resource to this province. I have mentored leaders and constituted councils and have been through all corridors in my political career. I am a go-getter, a friendly person and someone who wants to make things happen.

The principles of redress, reconciliation, diversity, and delivery appeal to me as it does too many other South Africans. The strengthening of opposition politics is key in taking our country forward.

Three words guide my path:

Integrity: To be honest in all aspects of my life and upholding strong morals and principles

Honesty: To be truthful

The future: That everyone has equal open opportunity society and that everyone lives in harmony.

The DA’s lists represent a party committed to serving the people of South Africa. Unlike parties who deploy their cadres to do the bidding of factions and to serve their party’s interests, the DA strives to find candidates who are capable and who are committed to the cause of service to the people.

The DA is a national government-in-waiting, and it is, therefore, crucial that we use our public representative structures to build the government South Africa deserves.
