- The CCMA on 11 August 2026 upheld the Council’s decision of 23 January 2026 to terminate the services of CFO Ms Mercy Mpetla.
- The dismissal followed serious concerns over a R2.9 million payment, unauthorised payments and a VW Amarok received from a municipal service provider.
- The judgement vindicates our long-standing fight for good governance and accountability in Matlosana.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matlosana is once again vindicated by the judgement of the CCMA on 11 August 2026, which upheld the Council decision of 23 January 2026 to terminate the services of CFO, Ms Mercy Mpetla.
The decision to terminate her services, among others, was based on:
- A payment of R2.9 million to Variegated Construction without verification of the goods received notice.
- No authority to authorise payments over R1.5 million.
- Receiving a VW Amarok valued at R1.4 million from GMHM Construction, a service provider of paraffin.
It was noted in all these cases, Ms Mpetla failed dismally to provide evidence of her innocence. She could not prove that she paid for the vehicle or provide evidence to refute the allegations against her.
The DA in Matlosana has long fought and maintained that her appointment was politically motivated, based on allegations of her involvement in sponsoring ANC congress activities and her association with the current ANC Chief Whip of Council.
Notwithstanding repeated attempts to directly interfere with the outcome of the disciplinary hearing, as well as deliberate efforts to delay and obstruct the lawful dismissal of the accused CFO, a faction within the ANC chose to ignore both a court order and the fundamental principles of the rule of law. This conduct, allegedly led by the Single Whip of Council, Cllr Rose Thabanchu, together with the Speaker of Council, Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya, represents a blatant disregard for accountability and good governance.
Despite these sustained efforts to shield the accused, the DA’s persistence and commitment to lawful process ultimately ensured that the CFO was finally dismissed.
Voters can be assured of the DA’s committed approach to upholding good governance and accountability and ensuring that public funds are protected.
