The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Madibeng has escalated the ongoing electricity crisis affecting the Melodie area of Hartbeespoort after repeated power outages continue to disrupt residents and businesses, with no response from the Madibeng Municipal Manager.

A formal submission detailing the scale and frequency of the outages was sent to the Municipal Manager and relevant municipal officials. The submission included a documented record of power failures affecting residents in Melodie Town, Melodie Plots, Gateway, Syferfontein and Mount Lyric.

Despite the seriousness of the situation and repeated follow-ups, the Municipal Manager has failed to respond.

The documented data reveals the extent of the crisis. Between 8 February 2026 and 5 March 2026, residents experienced 28 electricity interruptions, leaving the area without power for nearly 46 hours in less than a month.

These repeated outages are not isolated incidents but point to a deeper failure within the electricity network servicing the area. Residents are experiencing power failures multiple times in a single day, damaging appliances, disrupting households, affecting businesses and raising serious safety concerns.

Reliable electricity supply is a basic municipal responsibility. Yet the continued instability of the network and the lack of response from senior municipal management raise serious questions about oversight and accountability in Madibeng Municipality.

Residents deserve clear communication and an urgent technical plan to stabilise the electricity network in the Melodie area.

The DA will continue to pursue this matter through all available oversight mechanisms to ensure that the municipality addresses the problem and restores reliable electricity supply to affected communities.
