The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Rustenburg welcomes the arrests made on Sunday evening of two suspects believed to be part of a criminal syndicate linked to the theft and vandalism of municipal electrical infrastructure (see photos here and here).

This success follows ongoing collaboration between the community, private security companies, and law enforcement — a true whole-of-society effort that showcases the power of unity and shared responsibility in the fight against crime.

The DA commends all stakeholders for their swift action and continued commitment to protecting Rustenburg’s vital infrastructure. These arrests mark a significant step forward in curbing the criminal activity that has repeatedly disrupted power supply and harmed local businesses and residents.

We now call on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to pursue this case rigorously and ensure that all those involved face the full might of the law.

The DA remains committed to working with law enforcement, private partners, and communities to safeguard municipal assets, strengthen service delivery, and build a safer, more resilient Rustenburg for all.
