The Democratic Alliance will be submitting questions to both the MEC of Health, Sello Lehari, as well as the MEC of Public Works and Roads, Elizabeth Mokua, seeking clarity on the state of the access road to the Bray Community Health Centre (CHC).
This is after the DA conducted oversight at the CHC and found that the community does not have access to the CHC through the main gate anymore. The gravel road to the CHC is heavily damaged and impassable to low-clearance vehicles, and the main gate is inaccessible due to a deep, unfenced trench. These serious infrastructure challenges have far-reaching safety implications for patients, staff, and emergency services (EMS). See video of oversight here.
The questions submitted include requests for the timeframes of the damage, details of the appropriations that have so far been made available for infrastructure repair, how these departments are coordinating their efforts and what measures have been taken to ensure that EMS and planned patient transport can still enter the Bray CHC.
In demanding rehabilitation and cooperation between departments, the DA continues to be a voice of those calling for better healthcare that respects the dignity and lives of all residents. Healthcare provided safely and without discrimination is not a privilege – it is a constitutional right, and the DA will continue to fight for these very rights in every corner of the province.
