The Democratic Alliance in the North West welcomes yesterday’s decision by the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Council instructing Mayor Khumalo Molefe to formally notify the Municipal Manager, Allan Losaba, of the intention to suspend him, with seven days allowed for his response. This marks a crucial step forward in enforcing accountability after the Auditor-General issued a historic Certificate of Debt against the MM.

As we have consistently stated, the repayment of R4.6 million is only the beginning. True accountability requires decisive disciplinary action. The DA will continue to monitor the process to ensure the Council fulfils its legal obligations without political interference that undermines consequence management.

We will also formally request that the investigation be expanded to scrutinise the roles of the CFO and other senior officials, as well as the oversight responsibilities of Mayor Khumalo Molefe, to prevent any possible cover-ups. Public resources must be protected, and those who betray the public trust must face the consequences.

The people of Ngaka Modiri Molema deserve competent, honest, and accountable leadership. Oversight will continue until every implicated official and political leader is held fully responsible for financial mismanagement.
