The DA in Moretele is raising serious concern over the unacceptable state of the road connecting Hammanskraal and Limpopo (see photos here and here), a critical route used daily by motorists seeking a safe and efficient alternative.

This road, located in a low-lying area near the river, is repeatedly flooded during the rainy season. While the overflow contributes to wear and tear, the current level of deterioration reflects years of poor workmanship, inadequate maintenance, and a complete failure by the responsible authorities to plan for known environmental risks.

The high traffic volumes on this route, combined with continuous erosion, have now turned the road into a safety hazard. The damage is undermining economic activity, delaying transport, and placing the lives of residents and motorists at risk.

The DA is calling for an urgent, full refurbishment and upgrading of this road, not another patch-and-pray approach. We need proper engineering, proper drainage, and proper oversight to ensure the road is safe and usable all year round, including during heavy rains.

We will continue to apply pressure on the relevant authorities to prioritise this route and deliver infrastructure that is reliable, resilient, and safe. The people of this community deserve better, and the DA will not stop fighting for the services they are entitled to.
