The Democratic Alliance (DA) is deeply saddened and profoundly disturbed by the tragic case emerging from Stilfontein, where a two-year-old boy was found deceased under terrible circumstances.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to social welfare, law enforcement, and community safety. No child should ever be subjected to such suffering, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that vulnerable members of our society are protected and cared for.

The DA condemns any form of neglect, abuse, or exploitation, and we call on all relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this case. It is imperative that justice is served and that measures are put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future. This situation highlights the critical importance of early intervention, community engagement, and strengthened social services to safeguard at-risk children.

As a party committed to building a caring, inclusive, and accountable South Africa, the DA urges government departments, community leaders, and citizens to work together proactively. We must ensure that vulnerable families receive the support they need and that perpetrators are held accountable.

The DA stands ready to advocate for increased resources, better oversight, and stronger policies that prioritise the safety and well-being of children. Every child deserves a safe environment to grow, learn, and thrive.

We call on communities to remain vigilant and compassionate, to stand against neglect and abuse, and to support efforts that protect our children’s future. It is time to wake up, shout out, and report abuse to SAPS.

Let us remember the innocent young life lost and pledge to do better, for every child, for every community.
