The Democratic Alliance (DA) has tabled a motion in the Kgetlengrivier Council to establish a business desk within the municipality, to boost economic growth and job creation. (See letter here.)

This DA motion in Kgetlengrivier echoes the DA’s call in the North West Legislature by MPL Freddy Sonakile for urgent interventions to counter unemployment in the North West Province, which hovers over 50%.

The establishment of this desk must take place using current staff of the Municipality, not adding to the salary bill. This plan was first brought to Council by the DA during the Mayor’s presentation of the Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plan in January this year.

The aim of the business desk is for local businesses to have a direct line, which will be aimed at speeding up service delivery queries, permits, clearances, among others.

The DA believes that by speeding up bureaucratic blockages, businesses will be freed up to continue selling the services and products they offer, thereby safeguarding existing jobs and potentially even creating more jobs.
