The DA will open a Human Rights Commission complaint against the North West Department of Social Development because it is now apparently making NPO payments and allocations on the basis of race.

This is evidenced by the non-payment of NPO funding to the Marthie Du Plessis Service Centre, which the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Premier and Finance, Nathan Oliphant, justified by stating in the Legislature that its funding is cut because it serves people “who are not part of the majority”

Oliphant went further, commending the North West Department of Social Development for changing the structure of NPO funding – thus making it clear that race-based decision-making is now official ANC policy in North West.

For over 40 years, this centre has provided care and support to vulnerable elderly citizens of all races. For the past 22 years, it has received an annual subsidy of R97,000 from the Department of Social Development, without any increase to keep up with inflation, until now. For the 2024/2025 financial year, no payment has been made with no explanation or justification.

This blatant attack on non-racial governance violates the Constitution. (See video attached)

The ANC has abandoned democratic principles in favour of race-based exclusion.

The DA remains committed to fighting for a fair, non-racial and just South Africa, where all people, regardless of race, are treated with dignity and respect.
