The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Kgetlengrivier welcomes the intervention of Public Works HOD, Moses Kgantsi, in facilitating the potential completion of Jameson Road by contractor M Civils. Currently, M Civils is assessing the work completed by the previous contractor before possibly reaching an agreement with Public Works to take over the project.
This follows the DA’s submission of petitions to the provincial legislature and council, raising concerns about the impact of service delivery failures on Kgetlengrivier’s local economy.
The DA presented two petitions to the council on Thursday, 28 January 2025—one demanding continuous feedback to residents regarding the Koster bulk pipeline project and another calling for the completion of Jameson Road and Mill Street.
After engaging with both formal and informal businesses operating on these roads, the DA believes that the ongoing service delivery failures amount to an economic attack on the heart of Kgetlengrivier’s central business district.
Numerous businesses have expressed frustration over sharp revenue declines caused by the abandoned roads and the need to source water when supply is cut off. One business estimated a conservative loss of R480 000 in monthly sales. The DA is further concerned that prolonged revenue decline will affect profit margins so severely that employment will be threatened.
The DA recognises the HOD’s intervention as a crucial step in addressing these challenges, particularly those related to the roads. However, the DA will remain vigilant in monitoring progress on both the roads and bulk pipelines, as they are essential to Koster’s economy.
