Tswaing municipality employees embarked on an illegal strike this week, bringing all service deliveries to a halt.
DA Councillor, Soret Viljoen, tried several times to engage with the Speaker, Mayor, and Municipal Manager to ensure residents receive basic services.
The DA also wrote a letter to the Speaker, Sam Letlakane, the Mayor, Norah Mahlangu, the acting municipal manager, and the HOD for CoGHSTA in NW, Mr. Ben Bole, asking for urgent intervention, but to no avail.
A power switch was deliberately turned off, leaving residents of Delareyville without electricity. Switches in the reservoir were also removed, leaving Agisanang, Pelhindaba, and Sannieshof residents without water.
Instances of intimidation of employees and their families were also reported.
This is a transgression of the Constitution, the National Water Act, and the National Water Services Act. Sabotage of water infrastructure is declared a priority crime, and those responsible should be brought to justice.
The DA will write to the Municipal Manager in Tswaing to immediately apply disciplinary steps and restore service delivery within the Tswaing Local Municipality.
