The DA in the Naledi Local Municipality has written to the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality’s Mayor, Motseokae Alpheus Sense Maje, and Municipal Manager, Itumeleng Ronald Jonas, requesting urgent repairs to borehole 25-33338 which has left Naledi residents living in Extensions 25 and 28 and Fairview without water for days. The Joe Morolong District Hospital and the Toyota Garage are also affected by this, hindering patient care and suppressing local business. See letter here.

After conducting an oversight inspection at the borehole and engaging with Naledi, the DA confirmed that the local municipality had taken steps to ensure the electricity supply to the borehole was intact. However, the borehole is in dire need of maintenance and repairs in order to be fully operational.

The obligation now shifts to the district municipality to take action to ensure that repairs are brought to the borehole.

Denying people access to water is a violation of their human rights.

Residents have an opportunity in this year’s election to vote for the DA to rescue South Africa and reclaim their dignity.
