The DA in the Tswaing Local Municipality is disgusted with the Ngaka Modiri District Municipality’s inability to provide honeysuckers to the towns of Sannieshof and Ottosdal for more than a month, leaving the streets covered in raw sewage. See images here and here.
In Sannieshof and Ottosdal, around 1 300 septic tanks require monthly vacuuming. This includes businesses, schools, police stations, government buildings, retirement homes, and private residences.
Only one honeysucker from Ngaka Modiri Molema is currently providing services in the district, driving around like headless chickens from one overflowing drain to the next with little control over the situation.
The DA enquired several times from Ngaka Modiri Molema when the additional honeysuckers will be delivered to Tswaing. The Mayor, Khumalo Molefe, and Municipal Manager of Ngaka Modiri Molema, Mr Allen Losaba, consistently ignored the DA’s calls and messages. See screenshots of messages here and here.
Local municipalities within the district are still being forced to live in the most terrible conditions in transgression of their basic human rights as a result of the district municipality’s incompetence and refusal to deliver services as required by law.
Furthermore, the overflowing sewers directly seep into boreholes through gravitational water movement contaminating aquifers exceeding the boundaries of Tswaing.
North West Premier, Bushy Maape, and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Nono Maloyi, have already been contacted by the DA, but neither they nor their offices have responded.
We will now write to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu, requesting him to immediately intervene in this disgraceful situation by applying pressure on the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality to provide honeysuckers to Tswaing.
The ANC administration has only ever failed residents since they stepped into office and continue to do so.
The DA will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of Tswaing residents and that the ANC be held accountable for the transgressions of the NEMA Act and the Constitution.
