Note to Editors: Please find attached a soundbite in English by Cllr Barnard Manne.

The DA in the Madibeng Local Municipality conducted an oversight visit with the municipal Community Service Portfolio Committee led MMC, Cllr Lindiwe Mhlambi, last week to assess the state of the Brits Sports Ground, the old Oukasie Cemetery, the Damonsville Library, the Wastewater Plant in Brits, and the newly built library in Hartbeespoort Dam.

We were met with extensive decay of these facilities due to neglect in maintenance and general upkeep.

The Brits Sport Grounds remain unfenced, the soccer and rugby pitches are overgrown, the swimming pool is in a poor condition, and the restrooms and changing rooms are dilapidated. The sports grounds appear to have been vandalised, made easier due to the lack of security. See images here and here.

The Letlhabile Stadium is in a similar state of disrepair. See images here and here.

The old Oukasie Cemetery has become unsafe for residents who wish to pay their respects to lost loved ones. The cemetery is unfenced and there are no security personnel on site. This is a major risk to residents who may fall victim to crime while visiting the cemetery. The cemetery is also accessible to vandals.

Despite being extremely small with only two tables and two computers without any internet connection, the Damonsville Community Library is expected to serve the entire community. The library’s toilets are also in a terrible state. See images here and here.

The DA will write to Cllr Lindiwe Mhlambi and the Municipal Manager, Beverly Gunqisa, requesting them to table a funded plan in Council to secure, renovate and maintain these municipal facilities without any delay.
