The DA in Kgetlengrivier will write to the MEC of COGTA requesting an urgent intervention to ensure full restoration of water to the residents of Derby.
This follows the ongoing water crisis in Derby and the slow response from the authorities. For the past four weeks, Derby residents have relied on water tankers due to a severe shortage of running water.
The reasons given for this crisis keep changing — from Eskom power lines being cut, to boreholes being vandalised, to delays in buying pumps. This has resulted in the residents of Derby struggling with water despite water tankering.
During this period, the DA has extensively appealed to officials to speedily restore water, to no avail.
We now find ourselves with no option but to request a provincial intervention.
