by: Cllr Chris Hattingh, DA Constituency Head: JB Marks Local Municipality
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West, conducted its first historic virtual selection interviews for the Ward 5, JB Marks Local Municipality candidate.
The Ward 5 seat became vacant after the passing of DA Ward Councillor, Alderman Jasper Venter, earlier this year. In the interim, DA Councillor Jean Adriaanse was seconded to serve the residents of Ward 5.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown, the DA developed innovative ways to conduct its business as well as serving the people. A secure, virtual process has been developed to conduct party business, such as the selection of suitable candidates to fill vacancies.
The selection panel, after interviewing 8 shortlisted aspirant candidates, who made themselves available to serve the residents of Ward 5, selected Heinricha Hodgson as the DA’s candidate for the by-election for Ward 5 JB Marks. Please find see the attached picture.
Heinricha, holds B Juris and LLB degrees from the North West University. She has extensive experience in the legal field as a practising attorney. She works as a mediator in the Family Court, and holds a certificate with a specialisation in family law.
Apart from her extensive community outreach work in the legal field, Heinricha serves as a director for Aardklop National Art Festival.
Candidate Heinricha Hodgson, will immediately begin to engage residents of Ward 5 and, assisted by the DA’s JB Marks Caucus, address the service delivery problems experienced by residents.
The IEC is yet to confirm a date for the by-election to fill the vacancy.
We wish Candidate Heinricha Hodgson all the best in serving residents of Ward 5 with the entire DA North West Team firmly behind her.
