The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Madibeng welcomes the urgent response now underway following reports of illegal land occupation on Portion 80 of the Farm Broederstroom 481 JQ in Ward 29 (see photo).

The DA was alerted by concerned residents on the evening of 4 May 2026 that structures were being put up on the property, which forms part of a deceased estate.

Given how quickly these situations can escalate, the matter was immediately taken up with the Madibeng Local Municipality and the South African Police Service in Hartbeespoort.

As a result, a Notice to Evict has now been issued and served on 5 May 2026 (see attached).

At the same time, it is important to recognise the bigger issue. Government has a responsibility to ensure that there are sufficient housing and proper planning to meet the growing demand, especially as more people move to urban areas in search of opportunities. The ongoing shortage of affordable housing continues to push vulnerable residents into desperate situations.

This is why proper spatial planning and housing development must be prioritised to address both homelessness and the increasing need for low-cost housing.

This outcome also shows what can happen when residents speak up and report issues before they get out of hand.

The DA thanks the community members who acted quickly and responsibly. Their willingness to come forward made it possible for the matter to be addressed in time.

We encourage residents to continue working with the DA and authorities to protect property, maintain order, and prevent these situations from escalating. The DA will keep a close eye on developments and provide updates where necessary.
