The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Lekwa-Teemane commends the swift and decisive action of a committed DA community activist and aspiring councillor candidate who helped prevent cable theft in Christiana last night.
After receiving a call from a concerned resident regarding cable theft in progress, the activist immediately responded to the scene. Working together with vigilant community members, they managed to interrupt the incident before the perpetrators could escape with the cable. Although the line had already been cut, their rapid intervention prevented a complete loss of infrastructure.
Early this morning, DA Lekwa-Teemane visited the municipality to arrange the urgent reconnection of the damaged cable in order to prevent prolonged electricity disruptions and to ensure the safety and stability of the power supply in the affected area.
Cable theft remains a serious and costly challenge across Lekwa-Teemane. It deprives residents of essential services, places lives at risk, and hampers economic activity. The DA applauds active community involvement and remains committed to fighting for improved security measures, quicker municipal response, and stronger accountability to protect critical infrastructure.
The DA will continue working with residents to ensure safer, well-maintained communities throughout the municipality.
