The Democratic Alliance (DA) has donated a range of educational books to Bothibelo Primary School and Kayelethu High School in Rustenburg as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and improving literacy in disadvantaged communities. (See pictures here and here.)

Leading the handover was DA Member of Parliament (MP) Joe McGluwa, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, alongside DA Councillor Nelio Nhacuangue.

MP McGluwa emphasized that reading lays the foundation for all learning. The donation aims to cultivate a love for reading and empower learners to unlock their full potential through education.

A key concern affecting learners today, is that learners can read but struggle with comprehension. This challenge undermines their ability to succeed academically. Through this initiative, the DA aims to support efforts to improve both literacy and comprehension skills.

The donated books, which include storybooks, study guides, and comprehension-focused materials, are intended to enhance the schools’ reading programs and help learners engage more meaningfully with their studies.

School management at Bothibelo Primary and Kayelethu High expressed heartfelt gratitude to the DA, noting that the books will greatly strengthen classroom resources and contribute positively to academic development.

The DA continues to advocate for meaningful investment in education and calls on all sectors to play a role in building a better future for South Africa’s youth
