The DA in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality will write to the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Velenkosini Hlabisa, through our representative who serves in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Jeanne Adriaanse, to demand urgent intervention in this dysfunctional municipality.

ANC-factionalism and personal political agendas are the main reasons for the municipality’s inability to address the inherited failures of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, leaving it to deteriorate even further.

Belated meeting notices, failure to timeously distribute complete council packs, late submission of documents and reports, compromised functionality of Section 79 committees, bulk water and sanitation issues, and political interference with municipal staff, all have a serious detrimental impact on the administration and management of this municipality.

Auditor General findings, SIU investigative findings, and Section 79A reports are never implemented, and expenditures and deferred council items are almost never returned to council to be reviewed.

Last-minute rush and short notice on the submission of mandated and legislated municipal financial reports clearly indicates the malicious intent to curb transparency and accountability.

Local Municipalities under the mandate of this District Municipality must bear the brunt of its failures, leaving Tswaing Local Municipality to drown in sewer and residents of Delareyville without drinking water and in the dark due to the non-payment of Eskom.

The DA remains committed to ensuring that all expenditure on municipal budgets is effective and used to improve the lives of affected residents; all municipal financial expenditures must be transparent, and those responsible must be held accountable.
