The failing and bankrupt City of Matlosana is spending R700 000 on a luxury vehicle for the Whip, Cllr. K. Ndincede.

During a special council meeting held on 19 July 2024, the council proposed and approved the purchase of a new luxury vehicle for the Whip despite the DA’s objections. The approved amount for this vehicle is R700 000, which does not include insurance, maintenance, and fuel.

Considering that this municipality is already operating at a deficit of R90 million a month, it simply cannot afford these luxuries.

The municipality is nearly three years behind on its Midvaal Water Company bill of R1.7 billion and its Eskom bill of R1.9 billion. Not to mention the water leaks, leading to 62% water loss and costing the municipality up to R400 million.

Even the municipal fleet is only 15% operational, creating further backlogs in service delivery and maintenance.

As long as the municipality cannot manage its finances and pay its debtors, it should not be spending money on unnecessary luxuries.

Where the DA governs, the needs of the people are always put ahead of personal luxury.
