The DA in North West extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, academia and colleagues of Professor Ntate Dan Kgwadi who passed away on 30 April 2023 over the long weekend. At the time of his death, Prof Kgwadi was the Vice Chancellor of the Vaal University of Technology.
The former Vice Chancellor and former Rector of the North West University (NWU), Mahikeng Campus, Prof Kgwadi was a key player at the forefront of the merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and the University of the North-West (UNW). The process was marred by protest and unrest, but he stood firm and fast and showed leadership. He played a crucial role in transforming the NWU into the academic centre of excellence that it is today.
Days before his death he spoke about his dream to build a ‘School of Excellence’ where matriculants could have the opportunity to improve their matric results. This is something that we hope the Department of Basic Education could look into.
Prof Kgwadi will always be remembered as an astute academic and his legacy will live on.
